About

I write widely about contemporary art. My non-fiction has appeared in Vault, Art Monthly, Art Guide, Ocula, Flash Art, Running Dog, ArtsHub and the Australian Financial Review. I’m also a former editor of Art Collector and Art Edit magazines.

My short stories and flash fictions have won the Rachel Funari Prize for Fiction, joanne burns Microlit Award and Digital Writers’ Festival/Swinburne Microfiction Challenge. My fiction has also been published in Island, Mascara, Meniscus and Going Down Swinging. In 2021 I received a Faber Academy scholarship to work on a novel project.

Piecework is a work in progress as I go through my old notebooks and gather together some of the quotes I’ve collected from artists & writers over the years. I used to love selecting pull quotes when I worked as a magazine editor, and I guess I’ve never shaken the habit.

Every month, I’ll post a selection of quotes, as well as some art news, opportunities and other things on my radar.

You can also find me (and the occasional sewing project!) on @sightlined on Insta and Twitter, and more of my writing at janeosullivan.com.au.
